Electronic Style Portfolio
Why create an electronic portfolio?
- Many people have found them a helpful way to more clearly present portfolio items - not only through text, but also through visuals, audio, and video formats
- Information can be stored and transported easily
- It takes up very little room and is easy to get into to update or make changes
- A plus if you use your portfolio to apply for a job a distance away
Equipment needed:
- Computer - the more RAM, the better!
- Scanner - A color flat-bed scanner is your best choice
- Digital Camera - You can also take pictures with your 35mm camera and ask your photo processor to put your images onto a CD -- or you can scan your printed photos with a scanner
- Multimedia Software Program - HyperStudio
or Digital Chisel are good choices
OR
- Web-Authoring Program
- Software such as Claris Home Page, Macromedia Authorware or Macromedia Director allow you the freedom to create your own portfolio arrangement
STEPS:
- Get Prepared - Familiarize yourself with the equipment and the software that you will be using
- Plan Ahead - Decide on content of portfolio items and gather multimedia materials which represent your growth and achievement (see Notebook Style Portfolios for more information on this)
- Portfolio Construction - Create your Portfolio using text, sounds, scanned images, pictures, video, links to websites or other programs, etc.
- Storing The Portfolio As You Work On It - Store your portfolio on your computer during the development stages and then as it grows you can store it on a disc (CD-R, CD-RW, DVD), a flash drive or on the web
